The Benefits of Eating Dates in Pregnancy

Dates are chock-full of nutrients and vitamins that are beneficial to pregnant people. According to Ellen Smead, CNM, certified nurse-midwife at Northside Women’s Specialists, part of Pediatrix® Medical Group, dried dates are full of magnesium, which can help with muscle cramps, sleeplessness and restless nights during pregnancy. In addition to their nutritional benefits, dates are also thought to help induce labor. Smead said that if you’re looking to eat dates as a way of making labor easier, 37 weeks (or toward the end of pregnancy), is a good time to make dates a part of your daily diet.
