About Our Practice

Newly established Pediatrix^® Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery of Savannah provides innovative pediatric plastic and craniofacial surgical services to babies, children and adolescents in the Greater Savannah area, east Georgia and South Carolina.

Led by pediatric plastic and cranio-maxillofacial surgeon Anand R. Kumar, M.D., FACS, FAAP, the practice is dedicated to delivering high-quality care to restore form and function with natural-looking results, giving patients confidence to lead a healthy, happy, productive life.

Dr. Kumar is highly trained in cranial vault remodeling and reconstruction (VAULT surgery), which involves reshaping cranial bones that have prematurely fused, restricting brain growth. The condition, called pediatric craniosynostosis, also causes an abnormal head shape, which is usually the first indication of a problem.

Dr. Kumar established the center for facial skeletal surgery and the center for pediatric craniofacial surgery at The Johns Hopkins Hospital and Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital, respectively, with an emphasis on multidisciplinary care for cleft and craniodentofacial anomalies.

In addition to correcting craniosynostosis through VAULT surgery, Pediatrix Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery of Savannah focuses on cleft and craniofacial surgeries, including:

Cleft lip and palate repair.
Correction of hypertelorism (wide eyes).
Orthognathic (jaw) surgery to correct severe malocclusion from a misaligned jaw.
Pediatric and adolescent facial skeletal deformities (hemifacial microsomia, Treacher Collins syndrome, Pierre Robin sequence) with airway obstruction using traditional orthognathic surgery and distraction osteogenesis.
Microtia reconstruction or total ear reconstruction using the patient’s tissue.
