Dr. Huhta received his master’s degree in bioengineering from the University of Michigan and his medical degree from the University of Wisconsin. He completed his pediatric residency at the University of Alabama and his pediatric cardiology fellowship training at Mayo Clinic. He was an Honorary Senior Registrar at the Hospital for Sick Children in London and after six years at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, he was recruited by the University of Pennsylvania as Professor of Pediatrics and became Chief of Pediatric Cardiology Services at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. He started the Section of Perinatal Cardiology at Pennsylvania Hospital, our nation’s first hospital.

In 1996, Dr. Huhta moved to Tampa Bay. He provides both pediatric and perinatal cardiac care at St Joseph’s Hospital in Tampa. He is also a Professor at University of Tromso, Norway, and University of Florida.

Dr. Huhta was awarded the University of South Florida’s Daicoff-Andrews Endowed Chair in Perinatal Cardiology from 2003-2008. He has authored over 225 articles, books and chapters, and his newest book with Drs. Bader and Hornberger is titled The Perinatal Cardiology Handbook.

In July 2008, he joined the Pediatrix team and is currently the lead physician in the Pediatrix fetal echocardiography network.
