Kenyan Children Receive Lifesaving Neurological Care

Karen Keough, M.D., a pediatric neurologist and medical director at Pediatrix® Specialty Care of Austin, recently returned from her sixth medical mission trip to Kenya where she provided lifesaving neurological care to children in need. “It’s an incredible opportunity to provide care in an area that is sorely lacking with medical care at all,” said Dr. Keough. For more than 10 years, Dr. Keough and colleagues have collaborated with the Ubuntu Life Foundation, an Austin-based nonprofit, to provide care. During her most recent trip, she treated 50-60 patients per day over a four-day span. “It’s really a powerful thing to do,” said Dr. Keough. “You feel like you’ve made a huge difference in just a few days of clinic.”
