John Edeen, M.D.

John Edeen III, M.D., joined Pediatric Orthopedic Associates of San Antonio in 1997. He earned his Bachelor’s degree from Columbia College in New York, New York. While there, he earned three varsity letters in rowing. He graduated from Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons in 1985. While there, he participated on the rugby team.
Dr. Edeen’s surgery internship was at the U.S. Naval Hospital in Oakland, California. Following his internship, he served as the medical officer aboard the USS Peleliu (LHA-5), an amphibious assault ship. He completed a six-month deployment to the Western Pacific. Dr. Edeen did his Orthopedic Surgery Residency at the U.S. Naval Hospital in Oakland, California, from 1988 to 1992. He then served as a general orthopedic surgeon at the U.S. Naval Hospital in Jacksonville, Florida. He served as the Orthopedic Department Head and deployed to Somalia with a surgical team sent to the USS Peleliu in support of Operation Restore Hope.
After discharge from the U.S. Navy, he did his Pediatric Orthopedic Fellowship at the Shriners Hospital for Children in Springfield, Massachusetts, from 1994 to 1996.
Dr. Edeen is board certified and specializes in knee surgery and sports injuries as well as general pediatric orthopedics. Dr. Edeen is a member of AAOS, POSNA, Texas Orthopedic Association, San Antonio Orthopedic Society and Bexar County Medical Society, where he serves on the Emergency Preparedness Committee.
Dr. Edeen is married and enjoys mountain biking, hunting and shooting sports.
