Tampa Teen Avoids Open Heart Surgery Thanks to Innovative Procedure

Oscar was born with a serious heart condition called tetralogy of Fallot, requiring open heart surgery as an infant. Once under the care of Jeremy Ringewald, M.D., a pediatric cardiologist at Pediatrix® Cardiology Associates, he was able to avoid a second open heart surgery to replace the pulmonary valve thanks to an innovative procedure Dr. Ringewald performs using an implant called the Alterra pre-stent. When Oscar’s parents learned this was an option, they were so relieved, crying tears of joy. “That will never get old,” said Dr. Ringewald.
