DIY sugar pregnancy tests have recently gone viral, but are they really accurate? Sarah Jordan, M.D., OBGYN and medical director at OB Hospitalists of Texas, part of Pediatrix® Medical Group, says that they are not something she recommends. “This is not rooted in science and sugar actually does not pick up the human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) hormone,” Dr. Jordan explains. “HCG is the pregnancy hormone and what triggers a ‘positive’ test using traditional home and office pregnancy tests.”
