New Statistics Show Increasing Maternal Death Rates

According to recent data from the National Center for Health Statistics, there was a year-over-year increase in maternal death rates between 2018 and 2021. “We have seen rising rates of maternal mortality in this country,” said Bronwen Kahn, M.D., a maternal-fetal medicine specialist at Obstetrix® of Colorado, part of Pediatrix® Medical Group. “Some of the rise may, in fact, be related to COVID, which is kind of the most obvious factor. There are also indirect effects of COVID.”
