Maternal Fetal Associates Of The Mid-Atlantic, LLC is now Maternal-Fetal Medicine of the Mid-Atlantic, part of Pediatrix Medical Group

We are excited to join Pediatrix in meeting the maternal health care needs of our community. While there will be no change in the high-level care we deliver to our patients, this transition represents the breadth of our clinical expertise and our exclusive focus on providing quality health care for women.

About Our Practice

Our premier team of maternal-fetal medicine (MFM) specialists (perinatologists) has a long tradition of serving women of the Greater Washington metropolitan area and providing for high-risk pregnancy needs. Our clinicians and staff provide exceptional, compassionate medical care to each patient. Thousands of women have received care during their pregnancies from our team of board-certified perinatologists who have established a tradition of excellence for more than 15 years in Loudoun, Fairfax, Prince William and Montgomery Counties.

Having a baby is both joyous and exciting, and most pregnancies proceed smoothly; however, some women require closer monitoring during pregnancy and may benefit from the expertise of our maternal-fetal medicine clinicians. Our clinicians work closely with your obstetrician (OB) to create a personalized care plan tailored to your specific medical needs. This may include management of conditions complicating pregnancy, such as diabetes, multiple gestations, hypertension and recurrent pregnancy loss, as well as prenatal diagnostic procedures, such as fetal echocardiography, specialized fetal ultrasound, amniocentesis, and genetic screening and testing (nuchal translucency and nasal bone evaluation), and tests of fetal well-being.

An ultrasound with a maternal-fetal medicine specialist is different than a standard obstetric ultrasound. You will have a comprehensive experience with full counseling about your ultrasound. We have state-of-the-art ultrasound equipment with 3D and 4D capabilities. Our clinicians are experts in obstetric ultrasound and are board-certified in maternal-fetal medicine and genetics. All our ultrasound technologists are OB-certified and highly trained. Our practice is accredited by both national and international ultrasound organizations, including AIUM, SMFM and ISUOG. Additionally, all our sites are accredited to perform detailed, targeted OB ultrasound, and we are the only MFM practice in the area accredited for fetal echocardiography. We will communicate all results to your OB and provide recommendations to ensure you receive the best possible care.

In most cases, you do not need a referral to be seen by our practice. It is best if you already have an OB or midwife, but we can schedule you without a referral at any one of our convenient locations.

AIUM Accredited

We are proud to be accredited by the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine (AIUM). This accreditation acknowledges our adherence to nationally recognized standards in the performance and interpretation of diagnostic ultrasound examinations.

Management of Recurrent Pregnancy Loss

Recurrent pregnancy loss, also known as repeated miscarriage, means two or more consecutive miscarriages in the first trimester or in the second trimester prior to 23 weeks. Approximately 1% of women of reproductive age will suffer from recurrent pregnancy loss for different reasons. In approximately 50% of these women, no definitive cause will be identified. In many cases, however, the cause is identified, and treatment may be implemented, which may result in a successful pregnancy. Nevertheless, a successful pregnancy may still occur in approximately 60% of women with three miscarriages.
