Abdominal Migraine

Abdominal migraine causes episodes of moderate to severe abdominal (stomach) pain, nausea and vomiting for which there is no measurable gastrointestinal abnormalities. It is often associated with migraine headaches and family history of migraine headaches. Abdominal migraine affects 1% to 4% of school-aged children and is more prevalent in girls.
Celiac Disease

Celiac disease is an autoimmune disorder. It causes an immune reaction to foods containing gluten, a protein found in barley, rye and wheat. Over time, the immune reaction creates inflammation that damages the small intestine's lining, which may lead to abdominal pain, diarrhea and the inability to absorb some nutrients.

Constipation

Constipation is when stool becomes hard, dry and difficult to pass, causing difficulty emptying the bowels. There are many causes of constipation, such as insufficient fiber, irritable bowel syndrome, stress, eating disorders, certain medications and a diet heavy in dairy products and starchy foods.
Crohn's Disease

Crohn's disease is a chronic inflammatory bowel disease that affects any part of the gastrointestinal tract, from the mouth to the anus. The disease cannot be cured and can cause life-threatening complications. Common symptoms of Crohn's disease include significant abdominal pain, diarrhea, intestinal bleeding, weight loss, anemia and fatigue.

Eosinophilic Esophagitis

Eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE) is an allergic reaction in the esophagus, causing it to become inflamed and preventing it from contracting properly. The condition can cause the esophagus to become narrow and develop rings or abscesses. EoE symptoms happen when the immune system makes white blood cells (eosinophils) in reaction to an allergen. The most common symptoms are difficulty swallowing, especially solid foods.
Food Allergies

A food allergy is when the body's immune system reacts adversely to specific foods. Although allergic reactions are often mild, they can be severe. Symptoms of a food allergy can affect different areas of the body at the same time, causing digestive problems, hives or an itchy sensation inside the mouth, throat or ears. More severe reactions involve swollen airways (anaphylaxis), which can be life-threatening.
Functional Abdominal Pain

Functional abdominal pain is persistent stomach pain that does not resolve with treatment. The pain may be constant or sporadic, usually not lasting longer than an hour at a time. Functional abdominal pain is often diagnosed when there is no apparent cause for the belly pain, and it occurs four or more times a month, has lasted for two months or longer and isn't related to anything in particular. Anxiety or stress are common triggers for functional abdominal pain.
Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD)

GERD is when acidic gastric fluid flows backward into the esophagus, causing heartburn. It is a chronic disease that irritates the esophagus lining. Acid reflux and heartburn more than twice a week may indicate GERD, which can lead to respiratory complications, such as cough, asthma and esophagitis.
Helicobacter Pylori Infection

Helicobacter pylori infection, or H. pylori, is a type of bacteria that infects the stomach. It can be spread through direct contact with an infected person's saliva, vomit or stool or from contaminated food or water. It is the most common cause of peptic ulcers, and common symptoms include nausea and abdominal pain.
Hirschsprung Disease

Hirschsprung's disease is when specific nerve cells are missing from the muscle layers of part of the large intestine, causing severe constipation or blockage of the large intestine. The condition is present at birth (congenital) and can be fatal for children who do not have corrective surgery. Most children live normal lives after surgery.

Intestinal Malrotation

Intestinal malrotation is a congenital condition resulting from a problem in the normal formation of the fetal intestines. The abnormality can occur early in pregnancy when a baby's intestines don't form properly, causing the intestines to twist. Intestinal malrotation can cause a bowel obstruction.
Intussusception

Intussusception occurs when one segment of the intestine "telescopes" inside of another, causing an intestinal blockage. While intussusception can occur anywhere in the gastrointestinal tract, it generally occurs where the small and large intestines meet. Intestinal obstructions can cause swelling and inflammation that can injure the intestines.

Lactose intolerance is a common digestive condition that prevents the body from digesting lactose, a sugar primarily found in milk and dairy products. Symptoms of lactose intolerance, such as bloating, diarrhea, cramps and gas, typically develop within a few hours of consuming food or drink that contains lactose.
Necrotizing Enterocolitis

Necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC) is a life-threatening condition where tissue in the intestines becomes inflamed. It is most common in babies born before 32 weeks' gestation. However, full-term babies with underlying health conditions are also at higher risk of NEC. Babies generally develop NEC within the first two to four weeks of life.
Pancreatitis

Pancreatitis is the redness and swelling (inflammation) of the pancreas, caused when digestive juices or enzymes attack the pancreas. Pancreatitis may start suddenly and last for days, and it can occur for many years. It has numerous causes, including gallstones and heavy alcohol use and can be acute or chronic.
