On Sept. 3, Alan Groves, M.D., of Pediatrix Neonatology of Texas will review the current guidelines for cardiac point of care ultrasound. In this session, we will:

  • Describe the key indications for the application of point of care ultrasound (POCUS) in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU).
  • Identify the key components of POCUS best practice.
  • Summarize the benefits of POCUS in establishing vascular access in the NICU.

Dr. Alan Groves is a professor of pediatrics at the University of Texas at Austin and an attending neonatologist at Dell Children’s and Ascension Seton Medical Centers. He received his medical degree from the University of Edinburgh and undertook postgraduate pediatric training in the UK and New Zealand, where he completed a research degree in neonatal echocardiography. His subsequent research has been related to identifying optimal methods to monitor circulatory function in newborn infants, with a particular focus on cardiac magnetic resonance imaging and echocardiography, and in multiple aspects of respiratory and circulatory physiology.
