Diagnostic tests and procedures are used to identify possible congenital abnormalities and genetic disorders during pregnancy, including structural anomalies and inherited genetic conditions. A maternal-fetal medicine (MFM) specialist reviews screening results, performs or coordinates further diagnostic testing when indicated, and works with the patient's care team to plan next steps. Early identification allows for timely intervention, specialized delivery planning when needed and referral to other subspecialists as appropriate.
