Our practice offers diabetic care and education to provide high-quality individual and comprehensive care and support for type 1, type 2 and prediabetics. We educate patients about using a meter, testing and reporting blood sugars. Diet control, carbohydrate counting, label-reading and a list of low-carbohydrate snacks are provided to patients. During patient visits, our team explains the complications of uncontrolled blood sugars and the possibility of medication use in pregnancy, with a demonstration of insulin use. Your provider will also discuss hypoglycemic and hyperglycemic reactions and how to correct them. In addition, we explain the importance of antenatal testing, including the non-stress test, biophysical profile and fetal kick counts for patients’ unborn babies.
We also offer genetic counseling, where support is provided by a genetic professional or qualified physician. The counselor will work with the patient by identifying genetic risk, discussing family history, explaining available testing options and implications of test results, as well as providing patient education. Genetic counselors or qualified physicians act as patient advocates, translating medical and scientific knowledge into practical information. In addition, resources are available to provide support to anyone who may be at risk for a variety of inherited conditions or birth defects, such as cystic fibrosis or disorders common to a particular race or ethnic group. This information is provided in a non-directive, unbiased manner and allows the patient to make their own decisions regarding testing options.
