Vaddarse Nagaraja, M.D.

Dr. Nagaraja is a board-certified neonatologist with more than 30 years of dedicated experience in neonatal-perinatal medicine. He currently serves as medical director for the division of neonatology at Rio Grande Regional Hospital while maintaining an active clinical practice caring for critically ill and premature infants. His areas of interest include quality improvement, patient safety and nutrition optimization for extremely premature infants.
Dr. Nagaraja completed his undergraduate studies at St. Joseph’s College in Bengaluru, India, and medical school at Mysore Medical College in Mysuru, India. He finished his pediatric residency training first at SMS Medical College in Jaipur, India, and later completed a second residency at SUNY Brooklyn, followed by a neonatology fellowship at Women and Children’s Hospital of Buffalo.
He serves as an assistant professor of pediatrics at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley School of Medicine. Previously, he held a faculty appointment as an assistant professor of neonatology at the University at Buffalo, where he conducted research on pulmonary hypertension of the newborn (PPHN). Dr. Nagaraja remains committed to high-quality, family-centered care for newborns and families in the Rio Grande Valley.
