Dr. Graves is a graduate of Baylor University, received her medical degree from the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences and was a recipient of the Purdue Fredrick Award for Excellence in Women’s Healthcare. She completed her internship, residency and maternal-fetal medicine fellowship at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. During her fellowship, Dr. Graves received special training in obstetrical critical care and became the director of one of the first full-service critical care obstetrical units in the nation. She is a former division director of maternal-fetal medicine at Vanderbilt University as well as assistant dean for diversity. She is the medical director for perinatal services at St Thomas Health Systems and the state maternal medical director for TIPQC.

Recognized as an international expert in maternal disease states, Dr. Graves recently became a fellow of the American College of Cardiology in addition to her certifications in obstetrics, critical care and maternal-fetal medicine. She serves on the NIH review committee for safety in perinatal research. She currently holds grants from the American Heart Association, the Moore Foundation and the NIH. A past member of the board of directors of the Society of Maternal Fetal Medicine, she currently serves on the finance committee of the Foundation of the Society of Maternal Fetal Medicine.

In 2014, Dr. Graves, along with Dr. Stacy Davis, a cardiologist, started the Collaborative Perinatal Cardiac Center, which is one of the first in the nation to address maternal heart care from the preconception period through postpartum care with a focus on long-term prevention. She recently completed work for the National Academy of Sciences to develop protocols to improve cardiovascular care in pregnancy and the postpartum period.

Dr. Graves is an advocate for equity, improving outcomes and advancing science in the care of all birthing people. In her spare time, she is a youth ministry worker and a keyboardist.
