Dr. Barry R. Cofer attended North Texas State University where he received a Bachelor's degree in biology and chemistry (magnum cum laude) in 1983. He received his medical degree (with high honors) from Baylor College of Medicine in 1987. Dr. Cofer next completed his training in general surgery to include a research fellowship in transplantation immunology, and fellowship in extracorporeal life support (ECMO) at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center from 1987 to 1994. Following completion of this training, Dr. Cofer began his training in pediatric surgery in Pittsburgh at the Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh, under the direction of Dr. Marc Rowe. From 1996 to 2000, Dr. Cofer served as a staff pediatric surgeon and Chief of Pediatric Surgery at Wilford Hall USAF Medical Center in San Antonio.

Dr. Cofer is board certified in general surgery and pediatric surgery and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He has over 40 publications and presentations to his credit.
