Juan Barrón, M.D., MPH, is a board-certified pediatrician and pediatric critical care physician with Pediatrix Medical Group. He completed his pediatrics residency at the University of Chicago Comer Children’s Hospital and his pediatric critical care fellowship at the University of Puerto Rico’s Medical Sciences Campus, where he later served as a PICU and cardiac ICU attending before relocating to Florida.

Dr. Barrón cares for critically ill infants and children across high-acuity settings, with clinical interests in respiratory failure, pediatric shock and multidisciplinary resuscitation. He is committed to delivering calm, thoughtful and family-centered care during the most vulnerable moments for children and their families.

As core faculty for the HCA Florida Palms West Pediatric Residency Program, Dr. Barrón is actively involved in resident education, simulation-based training and procedural instruction. During his time at the University Pediatric Hospital in Puerto Rico, he created a dedicated pediatric sedation rotation designed to strengthen trainee skills in safe and effective sedation practices. He has also led mock code initiatives and developed teaching curricula focused on improving teamwork and patient safety.

Dr. Barrón has contributed to research on sedation optimization, liver trauma outcomes and the emotional impact of codes on health care teams. He has presented his work at national meetings, including the Society of Critical Care Medicine and the American Academy of Pediatrics. His academic contributions include peer-reviewed publications as well as a book chapter in Pediatric Critical Care: A Primer for All Clinicians.

Originally from Puerto Rico and a proud father of three, Dr. Barrón brings warmth, humility and a collaborative spirit to his practice. He finds deep purpose in guiding families through complex medical situations and helping trainees grow into confident, compassionate pediatricians.
