Zaineh Alja'Nini, M.D., is an assistant professor of clinical child health at the University of Missouri School of Medicine in Springfield. She received her medical degree from the University of Jordan School of Medicine in Amman Jordan, completed her pediatric residency at Nassau University Medical Center in East Meadow, New York, and her neonatal-perinatal fellowship training at the MetroHealth Medical Center/Cleveland Clinic Foundation program affiliated with Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio.

Board-certified in neonatal-perinatal medicine and general pediatrics, Dr. Alja’Nini is a member of the Newborn Brain Society and American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP). She is also a member of AAP’s sections on perinatal pediatrics, breastfeeding and early career physicians, its NeoReviewsPlus Editorial Board and its Missouri chapter.

Dr. Alja’Nini developed the enhanced anthropometrics and body composition assessment program for the MetroHealth Medical Center neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) and was the founding member of the enhanced anthropometric/body composition assessment committee in the same NICU. At Children’s Mercy NICU, she leads a quality improvement effort to develop a premature infant oral feeding protocol to improve oral feeding and breastfeeding rates in premature infants.

She has published articles and presented abstracts related to neonatal health. Her professional interests include neonatal nutrition and breastfeeding, neonatal growth and body composition, oral feeding in premature infants, quality improvement and education.
