19-Week-Old Baby

At 19 weeks, your baby is becoming more confident and independent, likely rolling more and exploring their surroundings. As mobility increases, keep new safety concerns in mind. Many babies who can roll from tummy to back begin learning to roll from back to tummy at this stage. “The trick here is making rolling from back to tummy the most. exciting. thing. EVER!” said Chris Klunk, M.D., a board-certified neonatologist at Pediatrix® Neonatology of Texas. “Get down on the ground with them and smile, laugh, cheer and babble right near them in the direction you are hoping they will roll,” said Dr. Klunk. “Put a toy they love just out of reach, so they are motivated to try and roll to get to it.” When your baby can roll both ways, safety becomes even more important. “They cannot be left for even a second without constant supervision, and preferably a hand in contact, when on a changing table,” said Dr. Klunk.
