Los Angeles is the only major school district in the nation so far to require COVID-19 vaccines for students. Nine states have banned the requirement in schools. For children who aren’t old enough to receive the vaccine, parents can help protect them from the virus by getting vaccinated and following other preventative methods. “There are other strategies to decrease the likelihood of COVID-19 transmission or illness severity, such as mask-wearing, social distancing, and hand hygiene, but these are not as effective as fully vaccinating,” said Zachary Hoy, M.D., who specializes in pediatric infectious disease at Nashville Pediatric Infectious Disease, part of the Pediatrix® family.
