What to Know About Going into Labor

If you’ve never experienced labor before, you likely have many questions about how it works. Hormones play a big role as your body gets ready to give birth. “The body prepares for labor by beginning to release prostaglandin, as well as the hormone relaxin,” said Ellen Smead, CNM, certified nurse-midwife at Northside Women’s Specialists, part of Pediatrix® Medical Group. According to Smead, the most common sign of labor is uterine contractions. You may also notice your water breaking.
