Teen walks after weeks on ventilator for COVID-19

After weeks of being on a ventilator due to COVID-19, 15-year-old Paulina Valesquez walked for the first time since falling ill. Dr. Venu Devabhaktuni, pediatric intensivist at Pediatrix® Medical Group of Florida and the medical director for Broward Health’s pediatric ICU in South Florida, said the teen was “kind of touch and go” while she was on a ventilator. “Things could have gone bad quickly, but she recovered because she’s one young, healthy child. That, I think was in favor of her recovering,” Devabhaktuni said.
