Southwest Florida Infant Undergoes First-Ever Strip Craniectomy

A Fort Myers, Florida infant was able to stay close to home to have a strip craniectomy performed, the first-ever surgery done in Southwest Florida. The procedure successfully corrected the infant’s sagittal craniosynostosis, a condition that causes a misshapen skull. The surgery is ideally done at a younger age. “The child’s own growth potential to take over the remodeling that’s required to change the head shape,” said David Lobb, M.D., a craniofacial and pediatric plastic surgeon at Pediatrix® Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Specialists.
