Belly bands can help manage pregnancy discomforts. According to Amber Chambers, CNM, a certified nurse-midwife at Melbourne Maternal-Fetal Medicine, part of Pediatrix® Medical Group, they’re designed to “help support the lower back and abdomen, reducing strain on muscles and ligaments as the belly grows.” The way they’re made means that “they can relieve round ligament pain, pelvic girdle pain and lower back discomfort by redistributing weight and providing gentle compression,” added Chambers. Some belly bands can also be worn after birth. “[Belly bands] can even help postpartum to support abdominal muscles, especially after cesarean sections,” said Chambers. “They can also help with posture while breastfeeding and healing in general.”
