Pfizer has postponed its FDA-approval application for the COVID-19 vaccine in children under 5 until it has more clinical data for a proposed three-dose vaccine. After reviewing results from a two-dose trial, the company believes a three-dose regimen will be more effective for the younger group. It expects to have results in April. “The change in plans does not mean there are problems with the vaccine, said Zachary Hoy, M.D., pediatric infectious disease specialist at Pediatrix® Nashville Pediatric Infectious Disease. “Rather, researchers want to make sure the vaccine is as effective as possible.”
