The latest COVID variant, XBB. 1.5, is responsible for nearly half of all current cases. As new variants emerge, vaccination continues to provide the most effective protection. “The COVID vaccine is still the best way to protect against COVID,” said Zachary Hoy, M.D., pediatric infectious disease specialist at Pediatrix® Nashville Pediatric Infectious Disease. “Because XBB is an Omicron variant, obtaining a booster would provide the best protection against this variant.”
