Expectant mothers urged to get vaccinated against COVID-19

With a significant increase in Delta variant cases, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention urges all pregnant women to protect themselves and their developing babies by receiving the COVID-19 vaccine, stating that new data reveals that the vaccine does not increase the risk of pregnancy complications. Kathryn Villano, M.D., maternal-fetal medicine specialist at Regional Obstetric Consultants in Jacksonville, Florida, said hospitals are seeing more pregnant women getting severe cases of the virus. She’s encouraging mothers-to-be to get vaccinated. “When we compare the moms who did receive the vaccine during pregnancy, there appears to be no difference between the normal rates of those types of complications and the rates we’re seeing in women who are vaccinated,” Villano said.
