The Salah Foundation Children’s Hospital at Broward Health in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. recently completed a three-year, two-phase expansion of its NICU. The new unit features 70 private rooms where families can stay overnight with their babies as well as updated technology, including web cameras for parents to see their babies when they aren’t at the bedside—it’s the only NICU of its kind in South Florida. A vital part of the care team is the parents, who are invited to participate in daily multidisciplinary rounds. “We have designated evidence-based protocols in place to regulate every intervention to assure the best care for the baby during his or her stay,” said Dr. Johny Tryzmel, Pediatrix-affiliated neonatologist and NICU medical director. “By applying these protocols, we make a huge difference in babies’ outcomes.”
