The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) tracks all COVID-19 variants, such as Delta, Omicron and Mu. It provides valuable information about each variant, including symptoms, transmissibility, vaccine effectiveness and how they may affect children. According to Kristina Deeter, M.D., pediatric intensivist and specialty medical officer for pediatric critical care medicine at Pediatrix® Medical Group, vaccination is crucial. It can stop the formation of new variants in the future because vaccines help fewer people get infected, and it becomes “less likely that these mutations will occur in a population,” she said.
