COVID vaccines now available for children under 5

COVID vaccines are now available for kids under 5 and with multiple options, parents have questions as to which is best for their child. Zachary Hoy, M.D., pediatric infectious disease specialist at Pediatrix® Nashville Pediatric Infectious Disease, notes that both vaccines are safe, offer adequate protection and have similar side effect profiles but timing and the number of shots may be biggest factor in determining which vaccine parents choose. “Parents have to weigh the risks and benefits for each vaccine, and I strongly encourage them to make appointments with the pediatrician, even if it’s a telehealth appointment, to discuss COVID vaccines,” said Dr. Hoy.
