Basic pregnancy test options include wands and test strips. With a stick, you collect your urine in a small cup and then dip the test strip into the cup. "A person might choose the cup method if they're concerned about missing the tip of the test or not getting enough urine on it," said Jill Purdie, M.D., OBGYN and medical director at Northside Women’s Specialists, part of Pediatrix® Medical Group. "Wand tests are typically easy to handle and interpret," said Dr. Purdie. Traditional wands show lines or a plus sign, and digital wands give a clear display telling you whether you are pregnant or not. No matter what type you choose, "Look for a pregnancy test with clear instructions that are easy to follow and check to make sure the test has not expired," advised Dr. Purdie.
