Children who are old enough to ride in the passenger seat should avoid putting their feet on the dashboard. “There is always some risk of being involved in a car accident every time you ride or drive, and riding with your feet on the dash adds unnecessary risk,” said Jacob Snow, M.D., a pediatric emergency medicine physician at Pediatrix® Emergency Medicine of Nevada. Dr. Snow warned that putting your feet on the dashboard can lead to serious leg injuries and permanent hip damage in a crash or sudden stop. “If a child sustains a serious hip injury or fracture and damages the growth plate, it can lead to early arthritis and potentially end with the child needing a hip replacement early in adulthood,” he said.
