Baby Movement Monitors

Movement monitors use sensors to track your baby's breathing, position and sleep, providing alerts if needed. However, they are not FDA-approved medical devices, and the American Academy of Pediatrics says they offer minimal or no protection against SIDS. Movement monitors are not a substitute for adherence to safe sleep practices for infants. “The most important way to reduce the incidence of sudden infant death is to ensure a safe sleep environment, which includes putting infants on their backs to sleep, on a firm surface clear of soft items and on their own,” said Jenelle Ferry, M.D., a board-certified neonatologist at Pediatrix® Neonatology of Florida.
