In Florida’s capital city, major grocery stores like Publix are struggling to keep formula in stock amidst the ongoing shortage. Parents have been left scrambling for options, often driving from store to store in the hopes of finding what they need. Thomas Truman, M.D., pediatric intensivist at Pediatrix® Neonatology of Florida and Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare, shared advice for concerned parents, including guidance on switching brands. “If the baby is on a very generic, regular, common formula, then switching to a different brand but similar version is one of the best recommendations out there,” said Dr. Truman. “If it’s a young infant, and the mom is breastfeeding, the recommendation is to increase breastfeeding and pump and save instead of supplementing with formula.”
