What to Know About the Latest Listeria Outbreak

The listeria outbreak that started this summer is expanding, with seven new cases and two more deaths reported by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in late October. The outbreak is tied to packaged pasta sold nationwide. Pregnant individuals should be cautious, but there are measures to help reduce risk. “Parents should check their refrigerator to see if they have any of these items and discard them,” advised Zachary Hoy, M.D., a board-certified pediatric infectious disease specialist at Pediatrix® Centennial Hospitalist of Nashville. “It's possible that they could be in the fridge with the latest ‘good by’ date as October 29,” said Dr. Hoy.
