At some point in their lives, most women will experience vaginal itching. According to Suzanne Bovone, M.D., an OBGYN at Obstetrics and Gynecology of San Jose, part of Pediatrix® Medical Group, it’s important to have a sense of all symptoms someone is experiencing to determine the actual cause. “A vaginal culture and/or a biopsy may be needed to determine the diagnosis,” said Dr. Bovone. It’s also helpful to note where and when the itching is happening. “I always ask if the itching is vulvar (external) or vaginal (internal),” explained Dr. Bovone. “Sometimes it can be hard for the patient to distinguish but it’s important to do so prior to the exam.”
