Period underwear is popular with teens and is often considered more comfortable than pads or tampons. The American College of Gynecology (ACOG) states that period underwear can be worn safely for an entire day. Suzanne Bovone, M.D., an OBGYN at Obstetrics and Gynecology of San Jose, part of Pediatrix® Medical Group, pointed out that there is no regulation of period underwear, so it may be helpful to check materials and buy from reputable brands. Period underwear can also be safely worn all night, assured Dr. Bovone. Certain period underwear is designed for nighttime use, featuring increased absorbency and extended coverage, sometimes available in a shorts style rather than a brief. "But any of the underwear can be worn at night," she added.
