Maternity Underwear

Women's Health

Pregnancy can make your skin more delicate and raise your body temperature. That’s why maternity underwear is made with softer, more breathable and sometimes seamless fabrics to minimize chafing and manage increased moisture, said Amber Chambers, CNM, a certified nurse-midwife at Melbourne Maternal-Fetal Medicine, part of Pediatrix® Medical Group. “To me, the best part is that they are designed to stay in place, whether sitting high over the bump or comfortably below it,” she said. There are several styles to choose from. Over-the-bump styles should cover your entire stomach without rolling down from the top or putting undue pressure on the abdomen, said Chambers. Fold-over underwear is a versatile option, she said, and great for maternity to postpartum. “The waistband can be worn high for over-the-bump support or folded down to sit low underneath it,” said Chambers. “It’s a great adaptive style.”
