Jeanette Carpenter, M.D., maternal-fetal medicine specialist at Maternal-Fetal Medicine Specialists of the Mountain States, part of Pediatrix Medical Group, is the lead author of a study on maternal COVID and disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC). The paper describes the clinical presentations and outcomes of 19 pregnant patients with mild or asymptomatic COVID-19 who had DIC, a serious condition that causes severe depletion of blood clotting factors and can lead to hemorrhage and other complications.
