Hepatitis C in Children

A recent study shows that Hepatitis C (HCV) cases in children are increasing, with Black children facing limited access to treatment. Jenelle Ferry, M.D., a neonatologist at Pediatrix® Neonatology of Florida, said clinicians should routinely screen children and refer caregivers to a pediatric hepatologist for further management. Pediatricians who have a suspicion of HCV in their patients are advised to order a viral nucleic acid test or a viral load test or request a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test.
