Helping Children with Epilepsy in Africa

Karen Keough, M.D., a pediatric neurologist at Pediatrix® Specialty Care of Austin, and several of her colleagues recently returned from a medical mission in Kenya where they delivered lifesaving neurological care to children in underserved areas. This was Dr. Keough’s sixth mission trip and together with a team of volunteers, the group saw more than 300 patients in just four days. In rural areas of Kenya, care is difficult to find, so children often go undiagnosed and untreated. For more than 10 years, Dr. Keough and colleagues have worked with the Austin-based non-profit Ubuntu Life Foundation to bring care to where it’s needed most.
