Children’s Medication Shortage

With children’s Tylenol and other medications in short supply due to a surge of viruses in early 2023, experts weigh in on how parents can cope if their child is experiencing a fever. One alternative is to use a generic brand. “Generic medications are just as effective as the brand name ones and may be more readily available,” said William Chu, M.D., pediatrician and medical director at Pediatrix Primary + Urgent Care of Texas. Fortunately, a slowdown in disease activity helps to reduce the shortage. “This decrease in viral illnesses should help the supply of children’s medication catch up to the decreased demand,” said Dr. Chu.
