Ovulation test strips can be helpful when trying to become pregnant as they are between 95% to 99% accurate, according to Jill Purdie, M.D., OBGYN and practice medical director at Northside Women’s Specialists, part of Pediatrix® Medical Group. The caveat, however, is that while the test strips accurately detect a rise in luteinizing hormone (LH) levels, which triggers the release of an egg, an egg may not actually be released, and the test strips can’t tell the difference. Other medical conditions can cause a spike in LH levels, causing the test to show positive.
