Here’s what to know about your 5-week-old baby. At this stage, you may notice some common newborn skin conditions such as cradle cap, which is similar to dandruff. "We aren’t 100% sure why cradle cap happens," said Chris Klunk, M.D., a board-certified neonatologist at Pediatrix® Neonatology of Texas. "Some theories focus on a skin reaction to a common yeast in the environment, or extra oil production from glands in the skin due to mom’s hormones."
