30 Infant Deaths in 15 Months Linked to Co-Sleeping

A Fort Worth hospital recorded 30 infant deaths since January 2022 caused by unsafe sleeping conditions. The children’s hospital is now informing the public about the risks of co-sleeping and the hazards associated with blankets, pillows and fabrics. The infants were not born at the hospital but were transferred there following the incidents or fatalities. “Sometimes a baby is able to be revived, but then suffers permanent severe brain injury from lack of oxygen, which may take away [the baby’s ability] to ever learn to walk or talk,” said Jenelle Ferry, M.D., a neonatologist and director of feeding, nutrition and infant development at Pediatrix® Neonatology of Florida.
