Here’s what to know about your 2-week-old baby. You may wonder how often your newborn should poop. "The rough rule for infant stooling is to expect about 1 per day for every day old they are," said Chris Klunk, M.D., a board-certified neonatologist at Pediatrix® Neonatology of Texas. "This means two poops on day two, four poops on day four, and by the end of the first week of life they usually have a poopy every time they are due to eat again," he said. You can also expect your baby to have day/night confusion. "Day/night confusion is the less-than-fun phenomenon of a baby being alert and awake at night but sleepy during the day," explained Dr. Klunk. "This happens because they have to work on establishing their own 'circadian rhythm,' or sleep-wake cycle." To encourage this, Dr. Klunk said that "the best thing parents can do for this is to be super exciting and stimulating during the day and calm, quiet and boring at night."
