Many emotions, questions and concerns accompany a diagnosis of diabetes during pregnancy. Whether your patient is newly diagnosed with gestational diabetes or has Type 1 or Type 2 pregestational diabetes, our team is specially trained to help maintain a healthy pregnancy for mothers and their developing babies.

Our Diabetes Management Program

Our team of clinicians manages the unique needs of each patient entrusted to our care. We collaborate with patients and help them learn about and improve their diabetes self-management skills by discussing:

  • Diabetes during pregnancy — general concepts and goals
  • Risks of high and low blood glucose levels during pregnancy
  • Blood-glucose monitoring and maintenance of food and glucose logs
  • Meal planning, weight gain and exercise goals
  • Medications to help minimize the risk of uncontrolled diabetes
  • Diagnostic tests to monitor the health of the mother and baby
  • Plans for delivery and post-partum follow-up

Diabetes management is offered via telemedicine to patients in Colorado, New Mexico, Wyoming and Nebraska, ensuring that a patient’s location does not hinder access to care.

For diabetic management referrals, fax the order and indicate the type of diabetes (GDM or pre-gestational Type 1 or 2). Include all recent notes, including prenatal records, current labs, imaging and patient demographics with your referral.

Tips: Prior to the first appointment, prescribe a glucometer and test strips (150, a one-month supply), and note “refill to end of pregnancy.”
