Diagnosing A Hormonal Imbalance

Women are relying on TikTok for advice on how to balance their hormones. “My guess is that women turn to social media because they don’t feel heard or supported by their health care provider,” said Jill Purdie, M.D., an OBGYN and medical director at Northside Women’s Specialists, part of Pediatrix® Medical Group. “Maybe someone just simply said ‘it’s not your hormones,’ but did not offer any explanation as to why or treatment options.” It’s best to see a doctor if you suspect a hormonal imbalance is causing health issues. “Women often will consult with me as their gynecologist when they feel like something is ‘off’ with their body and want to know if it could be their ‘hormones.’ They often wonder if things are out of balance,” said Dr. Purdie, adding even if they aren’t out of balance, there are still options available to consider with your provider.
