About Our Practice

Our board certified pediatric critical care physicians treat patients in an eight-bed pediatric intensive care unit (PICU). Ventura County Medical Center (VCMC) is a Level 2 Trauma Center and home to the only PICU in the county, where critically-ill or injured children can receive specialized care 24/7. We commonly treat patients for serious injuries or complications related to asthma, diabetes, an infection or virus, organ failure, cancer or blood disorders. We also provide sedation for outpatient MRIs, lumbar punctures with intrathecal chemotherapy and minor surgical procedures.

We work together with a variety of pediatric subspecialists to provide collaborative and coordinated care. Pediatric surgeons, gastroenterologists, hematologists, oncologists, ENT specialists and endocrinologists are available on-site, and pediatric cardiologists, nephrologists and other pediatric specialists are available through telemedicine. Physical and occupational therapists, registered pediatric nutritionists and social workers are also available to help in the recovery process.

The PICU at VCMC is designed to put patients and their families at ease. Medical equipment throughout the unit is specially designed for pediatric patients, while beloved cartoon and superhero decorations adorn the walls. Fold-out beds are available in patient rooms so that parents may stay with their child during hospitalization. The PICU offers child life and chaplain services to help families cope with the challenges of hospitalization.
