Dr. Porter specializes in maternal-fetal medicine. She is a fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. She comes to Broward Health from Mobile County Health Department, Mobile, Alabama, working with the underserved during the pandemic and serves as an adjunct professor of OBGYN at the University of South Alabama. Prior to this, she was ACGME CLER site visitor, assessing all training programs across the country. She served at the San Antonio Military Medical Center (SAMMC) Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, as an active-duty officer (lieutenant general) with the U.S. Army. Dr. Porter was professor at the Uniformed Service University, program director for the obstetrics and gynecology department and department head of obstetrics and maternal-fetal medicine. During her time at SAMMC, she was awarded the APGO/CREOG National Educator Award and the recipient of the Army’s meritorious service, achievement and commendation medals. Dr. Porter has more than 30 years of experience in academic and military medicine and leadership positions. Prior to her active-duty service, she served as chair of two academic departments, as well program director for Texas Tech University in Lubbock and the University of South Alabama. She was also president of Children’s and Women’s Hospital in Mobile.

Dr. Porter earned a doctor of medicine degree from the University of Louisville School of Medicine. She completed residency training at Texas Tech University and maternal-fetal medicine fellowship training at the University of South Alabama. She received her master of business administration from Alabama’s Auburn University. She is board-certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ABOG) in OBGYN and maternal-fetal medicine. She has served as a board examiner for ABOG and is a Certified Professional in Patient Safety (CPPS) by the Certification Board for Professionals in Patient Safety and Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ) by the National Association for Healthcare Quality. She has successfully completed Lean Six Sigma Green Belt Training and Certification. Her services included maternal-fetal medicine, specializing in the atypical aspects of obstetrics.
